Planning a September 1 move? Tell Amo Realty - Boston City Properties your move-in year, monthly budget and bedroom needs. Our rental team can discuss your search and what to check about each apartment’s dates, costs and lease terms.
Your September 1 apartment search
In your message, include September 1 and the year, your monthly rent budget, bedrooms and preferred neighborhoods. Mention pets, parking, laundry or step-free access if they are essential.
This is a brokerage inquiry, not a rental application or apartment reservation.
Ask about the actual apartment number, lease start and end dates, and when you can collect the keys. A September 1 lease start does not, by itself, tell you the hour you can move in.
Check the floor plan, bedroom count, stairs or elevator, laundry, utilities, pet conditions and parking. If you will share the apartment, ask how each roommate is included in the lease and application. Arrange a viewing and review the terms before committing.
Separate monthly rent from utilities, parking and moving costs. Request an itemized list of amounts due, who receives each payment and when it is due.
Massachusetts guidance identifies the landlord’s permitted upfront charges as first month’s rent, last month’s rent, a security deposit of no more than one month’s rent, and the actual purchase and installation cost of a lock and key. These amounts are not automatically all required for every apartment.
Broker fees are separate. Under Massachusetts rules effective August 1, 2025, the party who hires the broker pays the fee. A landlord cannot require you to pay the fee for a broker the landlord hired. If you choose to hire a broker to represent you, review the fee disclosure before engaging them.
Compare places to rent
Use building guides to compare addresses, layouts and published features. They do not confirm a September 1 vacancy. Check the exact apartment and dates with our rental team.
Start with your work or school address and the times you need to travel. Compare the full journey, including walks and transfers, rather than assuming every apartment in a neighborhood has the same commute.
Confirm when your old lease ends, when you must leave, and when the new apartment will be ready. If those times leave a gap, arrange storage or a place to stay before booking movers.
Check move-in hours, loading access, elevator reservations and any building requirements or charges. Tell the mover about stairs, narrow entrances and the actual truck-parking location.
A moving-truck parking permit is optional. Apply online when your move is 15 days to eight weeks away. For an in-person application, your move must be at least three days and no more than eight weeks away. Review the City’s current instructions, sign-posting requirements and September restrictions for your street.
Do not route a moving truck onto Storrow Drive: Boston warns that its low clearance prevents moving-truck access. Give the mover your building address and confirm a suitable truck route.
Share your move-in year, monthly rent budget, bedroom needs and preferred areas. Our Amo Realty - Boston City Properties rental team can discuss the next steps for your search.
