Renting or buying
in East Boston?

Rent an apartment
or condo

Compare the offered apartment, not just the building name. Ask for the floor plan, lease dates, monthly rent, utilities and itemized move-in costs. Check laundry, stairs or elevator access, pet conditions and any parking charges.

A waterfront address does not guarantee a harbor view. Ask for photos or a viewing of the actual apartment. If the home has income or program requirements, ask which application process applies before deciding whether it fits your search.

Buy a condo
or house

Tell our buying team whether you want a condo, single-family house or multifamily property. Compare the layout, condition and total ownership costs, including taxes, insurance, upkeep and any condo fee.

For a condo, request association documents, reserves, known assessments and rules for parking, pets and renting the unit. For a house or multifamily property, ask about the recorded use, condition and any existing tenancies. Your attorney, lender and inspector can review the details relevant to your purchase.

Ask your lender about preapproval and a payment that fits your budget. Separate cash needed at closing from money retained for repairs and ongoing costs; a listing price alone does not establish the monthly payment.

Compare the actual apartment’s windows, layout and costs separately from the building’s shared spaces. Ask our team about the home and lease dates you need.

Have an East Boston
address in mind?

Send the street address, unit number and any listing link. Our earlier guide included condo examples at 70 Bremen Street, 326 Meridian Street #1A, 285 Sumner Street #2 and 85 Everett Street #2, plus house examples at 2 Everett Court and 109 Ashley Street.

Those are past examples, not current sale offers. Their old prices, mortgage estimates and descriptions do not establish today’s availability or condition. Ask our buying team about the specific address you are considering and compare current listings and recent sales.
