A waterfront unit or a townhouse

Salem’s places to ask about include Pickering Wharf, the Village at Vinnin Square and the Highlands. Compare a downtown waterfront-area home with a townhouse by the actual rooms, entrance and parking. A waterfront development name is not a promise of a water view from the individual unit.

Parking and shared amenities

Ask whether parking is deeded, assigned or available under another arrangement. If a listing mentions a deck, fireplace or shared amenities, check the unit’s access and maintenance responsibilities. For a sale, identify those rights and the association charges clearly; community names below are starting points for questions, not a list of homes currently offered.

What does the association fee cover?

Request the fee and included services for the particular home. Ask about the association’s budget, planned work and any special assessments, and establish which repairs belong to the unit owner. Compare the mortgage payment with taxes, insurance, association charges, utilities and maintenance—not the purchase price alone.

The CFPB’s homebuying budget guide explains how those costs fit into the full home payment.

Buying, renting or selling in Salem?

For a purchase, send the listing or your requirements so our team can help you ask about the home, viewing arrangements and next steps. For a rental, specify your move-in date, lease length and budget; a home offered for sale is not automatically available to rent. If you hope to rent out a condo you buy, review community rules and the costs with your advisers before relying on rental income.

If you own a condo in Salem and want to sell, contact our team with the address, condition and timing. Review the property’s details and current comparable sales rather than using an old advertised price as its value.
