A major hotel under construction
Boston City Properties reported in February 2020 on the Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport, then under construction. The account described 1,054 rooms, including 52 suites, in a 21-story development and an anticipated June 2021 opening.
Massport had designated a development team including Omni Hotels and Resorts in 2017 for approximately two acres of land. Groundbreaking occurred on May 22, 2018. The project was tied closely to the convention district rather than simply adding another residential building.
Meetings, events and wider plans
The proposed hotel included roughly 100,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including large ballrooms. A planned connection to the convention center and lobby-oriented performance space were among the features described at the time.
The article compared the hotel’s scale with older Boston hotels and discussed convention-facility expansion ideas.
