Redevelopment interest along the Lynnway

In February 2020, Boston City Properties examined why Lynn’s waterfront was attracting development interest. The discussion centered on a waterfront master plan, possible zoning changes and the conversion of older industrial and commercial sites to housing and mixed uses.

The account surveyed several distinct properties: Breakwater at 254 Lynnway, Harbor98 at 98 Lynnway, the former Garelick site at 626 Lynnway, a proposal at 810 Lynnway and the former GE Gear Works area at 843 Lynnway. Their locations and proposals should not be combined into a single development or a portfolio offered for sale.

Transport remained a question

A Blue Line extension from Wonderland in Revere was part of the longer-running regional discussion. The article also considered ferry service and a possible Blossom Street terminal. These were transport proposals and funding questions, not established future routes on which a buyer could rely.

The report quoted housing-market figures and anticipated further interest in the city. Those expectations did not guarantee appreciation or investment income. Its Breakwater apartment count also differed from another February account, so no consolidated building total is asserted here. The useful historical story is the relationship between waterfront land-use proposals and unresolved access questions.
