The Boylston Street proposal
An earlier Boston City Properties report described Tavistock Development Co. filing plans on March 9 for 761–793 Boylston Street. The central Crate and Barrel store at 777 Boylston was to be removed, while Abe and Louie’s and Atlantic Fish Co. were to remain at the neighboring addresses.
The design would retain the sidewalk-facing façade while adding five floors above the three-story structure. Warm terracotta and a cantilevered addition were parts of the proposed treatment.
Separate retail, office and housing components
The first two floors were described as 15,830 square feet of retail space, the next three as 25,720 square feet of offices and the upper three as nine residential units totaling around 18,600 square feet. A shared ground-floor lobby was to serve the office and residential uses.
Outdoor seating improvements and possible rooftop amenity space featured in the account. The retail concept and possible luxury-condo arrangement were discussed as possibilities.
The projected schedule and property questions
Construction was then expected to begin in early 2022 and take 18 to 22 months, pointing toward late 2023 or early 2024. The account connected the proposal with pandemic-era retail and office demand.
