A groundbreaking at 235 Old Colony Avenue
An earlier Boston City Properties report described cannon fire at a November 15 groundbreaking for Washington Village in South Boston. It placed the site at the triangular area bounded by Dorchester Avenue, Old Colony Avenue and Dorchester Street, associated with Andrew Square and the earlier Washington Village name.
The ceremony’s 1862 cannon and the area’s manufacturing history connected the redevelopment with its earlier neighborhood identity.
The first phase and the wider plan
The first phase was described as 214 apartments, including 37 income-based units, around 20,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space and 58 parking spaces split between the building and street.
Core Investments and Samuels & Associates were identified with the broader project, planned since 2015 with a reported January 16, 2020 approval. Seven buildings, more than 650 homes, commercial space and parking across six blocks belonged to the wider plan, not the first building alone.
Streets, open space and the property questions
The Green, new trees, room for the South Boston Historical Society and more than two acres of streets, plazas and landscaped paths were elements of the earlier mixed-use plan. The account connected the site with Andrew station and described demolition of older industrial structures.
For a property question today, identify the address and unit or business premises, transaction, layout, access and cost requirements. Ask about current information and investigate condition and property documents separately.
