A first phase within a larger proposal

Boston City Properties reported in February 2020 on a BPDA-approved change to Washington Village in South Boston. The revised first phase called for one building with 214 rental homes, including 37 affordable homes, approximately 20,500 square feet of retail and 58 parking spaces.

That first building was part of a much larger plan. The article described eight buildings, 656 homes, roughly 98,000 square feet of retail and 560 parking spaces across approximately five acres. The overall proposal mixed rental and condominium housing.

Open space and separate board actions

The plan also included green space, a plaza and new connections through the site. These public-facing elements were important to how a multi-building project would fit into the neighborhood, distinct from the interiors or price of any individual home.

The same BPDA meeting included other approvals, including a co-living proposal in Allston, Boylston Place in Fenway and housing at 282–308 Bremen Street in East Boston. Those were separate developments, not additional Washington Village units. The February 2020 article documented approval and design changes; it did not confirm later delivery or current listings.
