A revised proposal over the highway
In April 2018, Boston City Properties reported that the proposed development at 1000 Boylston Street had received Boston Planning and Development Agency approval but still needed state transportation review. The project would build over the Massachusetts Turnpike, making the highway deck and the surrounding streets part of the development story, not simply a backdrop.
The version described in that account replaced an earlier two-tower scheme with a single 27-story tower rising 484 feet. Plans called for 108 condominiums, approximately 394,000 square feet of residential space and 45,500 square feet of retail space. The podium would occupy a roughly 23,000-square-foot deck above the highway.
Approvals were not a construction guarantee
The developer hoped to begin work in fall 2018 and finish in 2022. Those were anticipated dates, contingent on the remaining review and the complicated air-rights work. The account also discussed parking within the podium; it did not establish how spaces would be assigned to individual buyers.
This was the proposal for 1000 Boylston, not the separately discussed project at 1001 Boylston. The address, design revision and approval stage matter when comparing the two histories. The 2018 plans do not establish present-day condo availability, building amenities or completion dates.
