Performance space in a changing Seaport plan
In October 2017, the archive discussed a WS Development proposal for three theaters in Seaport Square. It described the wider development area as approximately 23 acres and the developer’s remaining site as about 12.5 acres.
The arts proposal followed debate over earlier plans for a much larger amount of performing-arts space. These were performance venues in a development discussion, not an announcement of three movie theaters or current showtimes.
Two proposed venues and another community space
The account described two proposed 325-seat theaters along Summer Street and a third community-oriented venue elsewhere in the program. Their role was considered alongside public open space and the mix of homes and businesses.
District Hall also appeared in the account, with a lease extending to 2033 discussed as part of the civic-space context. That reference did not establish the operating terms of the proposed theaters.
Transportation and review were still part of the proposal
The article described alternatives involving ferry support or the Silver Line as transportation-related elements of the wider discussion. They were not two confirmed operating services attached to a rental offer.
The plans remained subject to review and debate. This historical report does not certify the final theater program, completion dates, public access or current apartment inventory. It preserves the 2017 discussion about arts, transportation and public space within a major redevelopment.
