Forty planned homes on Gardner Street
The October 2017 account described a Hamilton Company housing proposal at 79–83 Gardner Street in Allston. The 40 planned apartments consisted of 39 two-bedroom homes and one one-bedroom home.
The project appeared in the discussion of Packard Crossing’s next phase and housing for working households. The wider phase’s reported budget was not necessarily the construction cost of this individual 40-home building.
A Victorian building within the development
Preservation of the Victorian house at 83 Gardner was a distinctive part of the proposal. The archive discussed a lobby and apartments associated with that structure, alongside the new building and parking.
The neighborhood’s “Mahogany Row” history and its lumber-industry families supplied architectural context. The account also compared the Gardner proposal with a separate completed apartment project on Malvern Street, rather than describing both as one site.
Workforce housing and building-specific terms
The article connected workforce housing with employees seeking homes near jobs and transportation. It discussed a Massachusetts funding initiative and general income ranges, but those program descriptions did not by themselves establish the final eligibility requirements at Gardner Street.
Advertised rents, unit features and anticipated access belonged to the 2017 proposal. They were not current offers or a promise that a household would qualify. The preservation plan, residential mix and wider housing discussion remain distinct pieces of this historical account.
