An uncertain schedule
In November 2012, Boston City Properties reported that Simon Property Group’s proposed 318-unit condominium skyscraper at Copley Place had no fixed construction timeline. Simon hoped to present a detailed plan the following spring, but neighbors and officials described the project as on hold without a clear explanation.
The article said Massachusetts transportation officials had not heard from Simon for six months. Because the proposal involved state-owned air rights over the Massachusetts Turnpike, review of the decking and structural supports was a separate consideration.
The market backdrop
The report placed the delay alongside a reported increase of more than 25% in Boston condominium sales during the third quarter. That market comparison did not establish why the project was delayed or whether it would proceed. This account describes the 2012 proposal, not a present construction status.
