Two buildings in one reported sale

In December 2015, Boston City Properties reported that Blackstone sold the Back Bay office properties at 500 Boylston Street and 222 Berkeley Street to JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Toronto-based Oxford Properties for approximately $1.29 billion combined.

The article reported a $755.3 million price for the approximately 706,862-square-foot 500 Boylston property, or roughly $1,068 per square foot. It gave $534.5 million for the 22-story, approximately 519,608-square-foot 222 Berkeley building, or about $1,029 per square foot.

The transaction’s background

The report linked Blackstone’s ownership to its $39 billion purchase of Equity Office Properties Trust in 2007. The 2015 sale figures were historical transaction amounts, not estimates of current building values, available office rents or the sellers’ net profit.

Historical account attributed to the original Boston City Properties article. Underlying records and later outcomes have not been freshly verified.
