The reported transaction

A December 2015 article reported that Coral Gables-based Gencom acquired the Ames Hotel at 1 Court Street for $53.25 million. It attributed the December 15 closing to Suffolk County property records, which have not been independently rechecked for this archive account.

The report identified the sellers as Normandy Real Estate Partners of Morristown and Contrarian Capital Management of Greenwich. Gemstone Hotels & Resorts of Park City was identified as the hotel operator.

An older downtown building

The article characterized the Ames building as Boston’s first skyscraper. It described a 14-story structure designed by Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge in the 1890s and recalled a $17.75 million purchase by Ames Court Street LLC in 2007 followed by hotel redevelopment in 2008.

The account did not announce a new hotel name. Historical ownership, operation and redevelopment details should not be read as confirmation of the building’s current use, operator or availability.

Historical account attributed to the original Boston City Properties article. Underlying records and later outcomes have not been freshly verified.
