City and regional figures

A February 2015 Boston City Properties article reported that Boston’s residential and commercial property value had exceeded $100 billion by the end of 2014. It separately described a Greater Boston total of roughly $600 billion. These were different geographic measures, not two interchangeable city totals.

The article discussed an 8.2% increase in listings during 2014 and an 8.1% increase in value during 2013. It also referred to a smaller pace of growth in 2014 without defining all of the underlying comparisons.

Prices, rents and taxes in the account

Reported residential figures included a median price of $364,900 and a median rent of $2,137. The article contrasted approximately 16% growth in downtown condominium prices with 4.9% for Greater Boston houses over the preceding year. Those categories and areas should remain distinct.

The reported 2015 tax rate was $12.11 per $1,000 of assessed value, down $0.47. That historical rate alone does not determine an individual property’s tax bill, and the account does not establish a 30% saving for a particular owner. These figures describe 2015, not today’s tax rates or rules.

A longer-range housing plan

The account also discussed Mayor Marty Walsh’s target of 53,000 additional homes by 2030 and a population projection above 700,000. These were planning assumptions and goals, not proof of later population, housing delivery or investment returns.

Historical account attributed to the original Boston City Properties article. Underlying records and later outcomes have not been freshly verified.
