Editorial offices at 53 State Street
In December 2015, Boston City Properties reported that The Boston Globe planned to move its headquarters downtown to the second and third floors of 53 State Street. The article described the downtown property as a 40-story building containing more than 1.2 million square feet. The anticipated move was in 2016.
The Globe’s earlier headquarters on Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester contained approximately 670,000 square feet. The article discussed reported environmental concerns there, but did not establish their nature through an independently reviewed environmental record.
A separate production move
The account said printing and distribution would move to an approximately 330,000-square-foot industrial property in Taunton. This was separate from the editorial-office relocation. It also recalled John Henry’s reported $70 million acquisition of the newspaper in late 2013 and Colliers’ involvement in the headquarters search beginning in 2014.
The planned relocation was discussed alongside a law firm’s expected move to the Seaport. The article’s construction and tenant plans belong to the 2015 account, not a current office-space offering or confirmation of the moves’ final arrangements.
Historical account attributed to the original Boston City Properties article. Underlying records and later outcomes have not been freshly verified.
