A large mixed-use site at three municipal edges
In 2017, DivcoWest’s Cambridge Crossing plan described a 45-acre redevelopment near Cambridge, Somerville and Boston. The proposed program totaled about 4.5 million square feet, combining residential space with commercial buildings and retail.
The article outlined approximately 2,400 homes, substantial commercial space and about 11 acres of green space. Those figures described the redevelopment vision, not an inventory of completed apartments or offices available to lease.
An initial commercial building and later phases
Groundbreaking and an October ceremony focused attention on the first large commercial building, described at approximately 430,000 square feet. A 2019 delivery was anticipated. Streets, parks, pedestrian access and connections between the site’s different uses were part of the broader plan.
DivcoWest’s 2015 acquisition was discussed alongside the design work and the site’s potential appeal to employers. Expected environmental performance was a project ambition, not a certification of the completed buildings.
The NorthPoint history was a different planning stage
The archive also recounted earlier NorthPoint plans, a 2005 groundbreaking, litigation and questions about tidelands regulation. Earlier housing totals and park areas reflected a different version of the development and should not be added to the Cambridge Crossing figures.
The history explains why a new developer and revised plan mattered in 2017. It does not establish the subsequent completion of each phase or identify a currently offered home by a proposed address.
