An October 2017 Boston City Properties article described Gate Residential's proposal for approximately 300 apartments in two buildings along McClellan Highway in East Boston, next to Orient Heights. The proposal involved replacing an existing parking or rental-car site.
The two-building plan
The report placed the proposed buildings on approximately 3.25 acres and said Gate Residential had submitted a proposal to the Boston Planning and Development Agency. It identified the developer's earlier housing work in Quincy Center, Revere and Chelsea.
Developer Damian Szary was described as interested in converting the rental-car area into an extension of the nearby residential neighborhood. The article mentioned an old mill and industrial uses close to the site, as well as its position beside Orient Heights.
The report said the developer had spent several months discussing the project with nearby communities and intended to submit a more detailed plan. A late-2018 construction completion was an aspiration in that reporting, not a verified opening date.
Why the location attracted attention
The article connected interest in East Boston and Revere development with Blue Line access and what it described as relatively affordable land costs. It compared potential housing costs with downtown Boston but did not supply rents, a cost analysis or a specific station-access plan.
Those broad comments do not show that transit works for every commute or that any future apartment would cost less. The original demographic marketing language is not used here to suggest who should live in the neighborhood.
Other projects discussed in 2017
The article referred to HYM Investment Group's Suffolk Downs acquisition and mixed-use plans. It also discussed a possible Wonderland sale and speculation about Amazon's second headquarters. Those were contemporary expectations, not current development or corporate-location news.
Elsewhere, the report mentioned HYM and National Real Estate Advisors beginning work at Bulfinch Crossing, with a 486-unit residential tower described in the plans. It also referred to the long-running Boston Harbor Garage development dispute involving nearby condominiums and the New England Aquarium.
A separate paragraph mentioned another apartment project, 2,000 square feet of parking and commercial space, and a fifteen-minute station trip without clearly identifying the property or travel mode. It cannot support a feature or commute claim for the McClellan Highway proposal.
