The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority provides convenience, opportunity and efficiency to commuters and other riders throughout Boston's metro area and in more distant suburbs. Riders on MBTA rails enjoy stress free travel between their residence and workplace or other destinations, with added time to read, socialize or daydream, in lieu of fighting traffic from behind the wheel of their car. Together, these five lines reach most areas of the Boston metro. For more distant travel to suburbs and communities outside of Boston, the Commuter Rail of the MBTA is a high speed surface rail system traveling to locations up to two hours away.
