Commuter Rail

The MBTA's Commuter Rail is a vast spoke-and-wheel style network of high speed surface light rail for commuters to suburbs of the city. Most trains make a few stops in Boston neighborhoods, adding to the options for urban dwellers to utilize MBTA lines beyond just subway and rapid bus transit. Commuter Rail is engineered for rapid reach of far outlying suburbs and ensures city opportunity and experience for residents of towns surrounding Boston. Most apartment and condo properties in the suburbs are medium and low-rise buildings, in the form of either planned sprawling communities or conversions of commercial spaces or larger Victorian homes.

As one extends farther from the city in any direction, square footage becomes more plentiful, prices drop slightly and amenities differ. However, this is not to say that "quality of life" drops or suffers. What one considers preferred quality in the suburbs is sometimes opposite of the quality another person prefers in an urban dwelling. The benefit of MBTA's commuter and subway rail systems, as well as the rapid bus transit of the Silver Line, is that one can make an individual decision as to whether home and work are in the city, on the fringes or far from it.
