Orange Line

The Orange Line of MBTA stretches from far north of Boston in Malden, to Oak Grove Station. The line then runs through 19 more stations, to Forest Hills southwest of the city. Along the route, the Orange Line passes through famed neighborhoods of Charlestown, Thompson Square/Bunker Hill, Chinatown, North End, West End, Back Bay, the South End and more.

Malden area apartments and condos tend to be in low to medium rise buildings of pre-World War II era. Rents can be lower here than in the city. There are some exceptions to older properties and varied development projects are recently completed or initiated for apartment complexes of up to four floors with sprawling lawns, broad floor plans and amenities of many of the upscale properties of the city.

As the Orange Line passes through to Mystic and Walden Rivers' confluence at Wellington and Station Landing, luxury and varied architectural styles come back into availability. Luxury lofts, waterfront condos, upscale apartments – all have quality attributes and amenities as a standard. Pet friendly management and social, fit lifestyle again are a focus of "green" buildings. All around these properties are coffee shops, trendy boutiques, high end shopping and fitness centers.

Further down the Orange Line toward Boston are the Ten Hills, Charlestown, Thompson Square/Bunker Hill, Somerville and East Cambridge neighborhoods. Each of these neighborhoods present their own flavor for apartment and condo living, with many more options than just "rooms with a view." These communities are well planned in execution of renovation of historic buildings such as schoolhouses, warehouses, mills, Navy Yard structures and waterworks into fashionable living spaces. Properties here are in high demand and go quickly to apartment or condo residents eager to enjoy the area's eclectic history and local shopping, Arts and dining.

The Orange Line also passes through Downtown Boston, Government Center and the Financial District. There, money buys happiness in the form of luxury, endless amenities and posh style. Waterfront or skyline views are common in a multitude of recently developed high rises.

The Back Bay is one of Boston's most desirable areas for living. Beautifully restored brownstones provide stylish apartments and condos on tree lined streets and access to all of the wonderful dining, shopping and cultural pursuits Boston is known for, within very close reach of downtown. There are also mega-high rise buildings of shiny glass and premium amenities.

This area differs a bit from Chinatown and beyond, where walk-ups and lofts again become more popular in the industrialized settings. Past Ruggles and subsequent stops to the end of the Orange Line then provide lower rise to apartment and condo structures, again with diminishing rent pricing and expanding square footage or, in essence, a lower price per square foot. Some higher rise buildings still pepper the route, but the farther one travels from the heart of the city, the more these changes are seen.
