Norwood spaces

Norwood is a town within Norfolk County. This locality, home to about 28,000 people, is part of the greater Boston area. Norwood is positioned on the Neponset River, which feeds into Boston Harbor.

Norwood was originally settled in 1678 by Ezra Morse, who established a sawmill in what is now known as South Norwood. In those early days Norwood was part of Dedham until its incorporation in 1872.

This portion of the Bay State was once a popular hunting area for Native American tribes of the region, and the land later drew in a handful of farming families.

Since its initial settlement the area known today as Norwood has a rich history. A minuteman company was established here during the American Revolution and its leader, Aaron Guild, charged in to join the fight against the British upon learning about that army's march on Lexington and Concord. Guild contributed to the battle that eventually drove the British back to the state's capital.

The Norwood area is known for hosting several presidents; Abraham Lincoln visited the town during his tour of the New England states, and later Presidents Calvin Coolidge and William Howard Taft were among those who socialized at Oak View Mansion. The mansion, constructed by F.O. Winslow, was completed in 1870 and still stands today.

Modern-day Norwood has five elementary schools, a middle school and high school, all of which serve just over 3,000 students. The city also provides residents with police and fire protection, an expansive parks and recreation program as well as senior center that offers a wide range of programs for area citizens.

Anyone looking to make Norwood their home may consider renting an apartment at a place like Norwood Gardens, a community that has one, two or three-bedroom units within its new two-story building. These leases feature expansive views of the surrounding conservation lands and open floor plans with well-equipped kitchens, washers and dryers in each apartment as well as the comfort of central air and heat. The building is a short walk away from the on-site clubhouse, and this community also offers amenities like a residents lounge, conference space, fitness center and a movie theater. This apartment complex is a great option for commuters, being in close proximity to major highways and the commuter rail out of Boston.

Norwest Woods Apartments is another possibility for hopeful Norwood residents. This three-story complex, which has one, two and three-bedroom rentals, is surrounded by 20 acres of carefully landscaped grounds. Cats and dogs are welcome here, and many of these apartments have washers and dryers in the unit. There is a community room with free Wi-Fi for residents' use, as well as a free shuttle service to the T, which takes the stress out of getting to work.
