Property sizes and prices range extensively in this region. Homes with a historical provenance command higher prices especially those with features like original staircases, beamed ceilings and specialty windows. Some homes in this area were built as early as the 19th century when agriculture and writers invaded the town and prosperous citizens built large houses or mansions that today have been remodeled and converted into apartments or still remain as single family homes. Rooms in older homes are larger with original crown molding and ceilings are higher creating a more open atmosphere. Kitchens are equipped with modern cabinetry and appliances, hard composite counter tops and some have room for dining or a breakfast bar. Many of these older homes still retain the quintessential wrap-around porches that the period was renowned for.
Condos of all sizes and prices are available. For buyers considering a newer building set in the countryside, many companies are expanding their construction into the vibrant area of West Concord where there is an abundance of restaurants, and shopping, yet it is still an easy commute to Boston. Newer homes tend to come with features more geared toward modern living, but they still manage to retain the charm of older homes without all the maintenance. Kitchens have stainless steel appliances, gleaming ‘white’ cabinetry, walk-in pantries, granite counter tops, and center islands or butcher blocks. Bedrooms have spacious closets and many living areas open onto patios or decks. Some are single family homes and others are duplexes or townhomes. Home Owner Association fees (HOA) cover more recreational facilities like, controlled access with a doorman and a night patrol or gated entry. Most have a clubhouse, pool, tennis courts, playground and some have picnic areas, bike storage, package services and some include landscaping and snow removal. For information on one particular property’s HOA, please consult your local realtor especially about pet policies and homes with disability access.
