In addition to the opening of several new subway stops and other infrastructural improvements, this area has seen an uptick in new development for luxury condominiums and high-efficiency office space, specifically in the form of one of the largest companies in the world. After launching a national competition, Amazon has picked Somerville as one of the 20 cities for its potential new headquarters, which could make the area host to a behemoth new corporate development. This development would increase the already highly desirable property values of the area, likely skyrocketing current lease and sale prices. The short-list was announced by Amazon in January 2018; the final decision will likely be made by the end of the year.
