Millis spaces

Millis is a Norfolk County town with a population of nearly 8,000 that was settled in 1657 alongside the banks of the Charles River. The town, originally part of Dedham and later incorporated in 1885, was named after town founder Lansing Millis.

Like many towns in the region, Millis was once a largely industrial area that is now predominantly residential. Lansing Millis, a rail entrepreneur, was responsible for propelling the town into the industrial age by developing a robust rail system in Millis, which cleared the way for early economic growth.

Today, rail transportation to Boston is available in nearby Norfolk, Walpole, Franklin and Needham, and Boston is a 26-mile drive away.

Luckily the rail system was not the only way Millis became integrated with the states bigger cities. Millis was also among the towns where the construction of the Hartford and Dedham Turnpike, now known as Route 109, took place in 1806. This major route remains a vital means of reaching the Boston area.

Despite its history as an industrial hub, having once been home to the old Herman Shoe Company and Holbrook Factories, Millis is also known to draw in a crowd for the "Millis Lights." The annual holiday lights and decorations display on the 40-acre estate of a local car dealership owner caught the attention of Al Roker of "The Today Show" in 2004, publicity that brought about 7,000 more vehicles per day to Millis during the holiday season.

A fine selection of one or two-bedroom spaces can be found in communities like Stoney Brook Village Apartments, where hardwood and ceramic tile flooring are the norm, and every unit provides access to a private patio or balcony. There is also a pool and a playground located on the well-manicured grounds. These apartments feature updated cabinets, counter tops and appliances, as well as a fantastic view. Animals are welcome based on some guidelines, and four-legged residents at Stoney Brook Village will thrive and make new friends at the on-site pet park. A trail system on the grounds is perfect for anyone who enjoys hiking, jogging, biking, or those who want to take a leisurely stroll to reduce stress. Stoney Brook Village is within walking distance to a grocery store, area gym and a handful of coffee shops, and for those needing to go out of town for business or pleasure are invited to take advantage of the public transportation available here.
