Middleborough apartments

In terms of land area, Middleborough is the second biggest town in The Bay State. This Plymouth County town, with a population that falls just below 23,000, was initially settled in 1661 and was known at that time as Nemasket, and later, as Middlebury. In 1669, Middleborough was the chosen town name when it was incorporated.

As was the case with other towns in the region, Middleborough suffered a setback as a result of King Philip's War, and much of the population retreated to a fort along the Nemasket River. Some eventually joined the Plymouth Colony. During the time the town was destroyed by fire, and was not rebuilt again for several years.

Nowadays Middleborough – often misspelled as Middleboro – bills itself as the "Cranberry Capital of the World" due to one of its chief industries, which also include warehousing and the manufacturing of brass goods and landscape products. There are four wildlife management areas in this community, and stretches of cranberry bogs add a splash of natural color to the landscape.

Middleborough's Little League Baseball program earned notoriety in 1994, when the all-star team played their way to a spot in the Little League World Series and finishing third in the country. One of just a pair of Massachusetts teams to attain the East title, the team won the state title again in 1999 and lost in the East Region final to Toms River, New Jersey, the team that continued on to earn the U.S. runner-up title. Since 2000, the team has earned five trips to the state semi-finals.
