With a population of nearly 80,000, this town in Essex County, Massachusetts is fast-growing and poised for more commercial development. Incorporated in 1853, the town is only 30 miles away from Boston, and contains 7.0 square miles of land. It is an area known for its numerous rivers, including the Spicket River and the Merrimack River. Previously known for its industry, specifically its large power-generating dam on the Merrimack River, the area has many spaces that are ready for redevelopment.
Green spaces include the conservation area known as Den Rock Park, which allows for both rock-climbing and bird watching. The city also has a number of hills that give excellent views of their surroundings, including Tower Hill and Prospect Hill. The town is also relatively easy to access, either by car or public transit. Interstate 495 crosses through town, as does Route 28, Route 114, and Route 110. The MBTA Commuter Rail Haverhill/Reading Line also has a stop in town. The Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority has a bus hub in town, and there is also a Municipal Airport just outside the city limits that bears the town’s name. This airport serves small planes only.
