There was optimistic news in May when Genesis HealthCare announced it will build a $26 million rehabilitation center in the community, rather than in Lowell's Hamilton Canal Innovation District, as was originally planned. The proposed three-story, 73,000-square-foot facility will be constructed at 55 Loon Hill Road. More than 200 workers will be employed at the center. The facility will serve patients who need regular appointments after having had heart attacks or major surgeries.

The Arbors, a multimillion-dollar assisted-living facility, opened in June. The facility is located next to the future site of Circle Health, a proposed 27,000-square-foot three-story outpatient center. Located at 21 Broadway, the Arbors offers 79 one- and two-bedroom apartments, in addition to Reflections, a memory-support environment.

Having broken ground in March, Circle Health will include urgent care and Lowell General Hospital patient service care, primary care, diabetes and endocrinology specialty services and OB/GYN medical practices. Circle Health is scheduled to open late this year.
