Charlestown Studios
Welcome to Boston's oldest neighborhood. Charlestown is steeped in national history. This community was Paul Revere's midnight stomping ground. It was the first capital of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, and it was an important center for the navy. Today, Charlestown is a dichotomy of history and modernity. It's a true 21st century neighborhood with roots that go back to the early 1600s. It has modern apartment buildings, a lively waterfront and gas-lit neighborhoods that look like they belong in another century.
About the Neighborhood
If you aren't familiar with Boston's outlying neighborhoods and suburbs, Charlestown is north of Boston proper. It's located on a peninsula that's defined by the Mystic River, Boston's Inner Harbor and the Charles River, which separates Charlestown from Boston's North End. Its closest neighbors include Cambridge, Somerville, Medford, Malden and Everett.
Charlestown is defined by its history, which is visible in every direction. Some of Boston's most famous landmarks are located in this storied area. There's the Bunker Hill Monument, the U.S.S. Constitution and the Charlestown Navy Yard. This gem is part of the Boston National Historical Park and has phenomenal views of downtown. Charlestown has not one but two marinas and is home to the oldest bar in Massachusetts. The Warren Tavern is said to have been one of Paul Revere's favorite haunts. This historic attraction from colonial days is surrounded by modern shops and restaurants that line Main Street, City Square and Bunker Hill Street.
