Brookline Studios
Established in 1705, Brookline is a fabulous suburban city with direct access to Boston by public transit or car. This outlying community has a pleasant blend of quiet suburban neighborhoods and urban areas with towering buildings. Studios and one-bedroom condos are located in historic bow-front homes, brick apartment buildings and new loft-style buildings. Although Brookline is minutes from Boston, residents don't have to leave town to enjoy world-class performances, art or history. This suburban community has at all, including a vibrant urban culture that delivers a high quality of life.
The Emerald Necklace
Part of what gives Brookline a more laid-back, pastoral feel is Frederick Law Olmsted's Emerald Necklace, a sprawling park system that covers 1,200 acres. It begins on the edge of Brookline, travels through the city and joins up with the Commonwealth Avenue Mall, the Boston Public Garden and the Boston Common, which are in the heart of the bustling Back Bay and Beacon Hill neighborhoods. Olmsted designed New York's Central Park, so it's not surprising that the Emerald Necklace also features graceful paths, arched bridges, flowering trees, lakes and plenty of benches. The park system links six suburban parks, including the Arnold Arboretum. Many apartments in Brookline have outstanding views of the Emerald Necklace and the Boston skyline.
Brookline Neighborhoods
Other attractions in Brookline include the Coolidge Corner shopping district located at the intersection of Beacon Street and Harvard Street. Stops for the light rail's Green Line punctuate Beacon Street and link Brookline with Fenway before going on to the transit system's North Station. The other major shopping district is Brookline Village, which is further south between Boylston and Harvard streets. The city is home to the Coolidge Corner Theatre and The Puppet Showplace Theatre, one of the oldest puppeteer companies in the United States.
Studio Apartments in Brookline
The average cost to rent a studio apartment in Brookline is approximately $1,500 per month. Luxury apartments in both historic and modern buildings start around $1,900 and go up to $2,500. This includes Longwood Towers and some of the more prestigious buildings that are centrally located on Browne, Freeman, Parkman and Beacon streets. These high-end rentals have exceptional amenities, including 24-hour concierge service, on-site maintenance, fitness center access, chef-quality appliances, hardwood floors and marble bathrooms with radiant heat. Condos and apartments with luxury features start in the mid-$300,000s and rent for about $2,000 per month, which is significantly more affordable than properties in the Back Bay and other nearby areas. Expanding your apartment search to include Brookline is an excellent way to get more while lowering your rent burden or mortgage payments. You may even find that you can afford a larger one-bedroom unit for less then you'd spend on a studio in central Boston.
