Ayer Apartments

The town of Ayer began as part of the larger community of Groton but split off in 1871. The town is named for Dr. James Ayer, who helped fund the town hall for the new community. The one thing that made this town prosper in its early days is its rail junction, which is still a junction for an east-west freight line and a north-south freight and passenger line. The Fitchburg line is used by the MBTA to takecommuters down to Boston in a short amount of time. Today, the town has a population of 7,400, which just over half of what it was in the 1960s. Even so, the town is experiencing a revival, and there's a lot of new living spaces being built.

Ayer and the neighboring town of Shirley share a school district that is fairly popular with residents of both communities. On the south end of town, the neighborhood of Devens still stands as it did when it was Fort Devens. This fort trained soldiers from World War I all the way up to the mid-1990s when the fort was closed. Today, it stands as the Fort Devens Historic District, and visitors from across New England come to view places such as the Fort Devens Museum.

People looking for an apartment should consider complexes like Old Towne Village. This large 120-unit space has rentals with anywhere from one to three bedrooms and up to two bathrooms. Every potential home has carpeted or hardwood floors, heating and air conditioning, a spacious eat-in kitchen, and utilities included in their monthly rent. The complex also has its own concierge service that fits every need a person may have, and residents can unwind on the basketball courts or in the fitness center. Kids can also enjoy the large playground.
