Boston Redevelopment Authority Approves 753 New Residential Units
At its July board meeting, the Boston Redevelopment Authority approved six projects that will add 753 residential units to the city. The six projects equal a combined total of $490.6 million. Additional information about each one is as follows:
- 375-399 Chestnut Hill Avenue - This prime location at Columbus Circle is being developed by National Development. Originally, the firm planned to include 92 apartments as a part of its $95 million, 218,500 square foot mixed-use development. The revised plans call for 92 luxury senior housing units. The mixed-use development will also include 162 hotel rooms and 14,000 square feet of retail space.
- 45 West Third Street - In South Boston, Spaulding & Slye was given the go-ahead to redevelop the property at 45 W. Third Street. Currently, it consists of a surface parking lot, a one-story industrial building and a residential building. The firm plans to build a 132,000 square foot mixed-use development on the site. The $45 million project will include 3,400 square feet of ground-floor retail space and 105 housing units.
- 40 Fisher Avenue - In Mission Hill, 36-40 Fisher Avenue LLC was given the green light to develop a 22,039 square foot, 15-unit residential building at 40 Fisher Avenue. The property is just a few blocks away from the MBTA Orange Line, which should be a big selling point.
- Walker Park Apartments - Urban Edge Housing Corp. was granted approval to develop 49 affordable apartments in Roxbury. The development will be built at a combined space made up of 80 Walnut Park, 67 Walnut Park and 2040 Columbus Avenue. It will be named in honor of Delphine Walker, a community activist who lived at this location for many years.
- Clippership Wharf - In East Boston, Lend Lease was approved by the BRA to develop a $225 million, 745,896 square foot residential development called Clippership Wharf. The development is expected to include nearly 500 residential units.
- Congress Square - Six former Fidelity Investment buildings in downtown Boston will be revitalized by Related Beals. The firm's plans call for a $105 million, 458,300 square foot residential development.
