The Neighborhood of the Community

The town is a very small community and has just one neighborhood. It has several unique features. First, since it has no large river to power early industry, the town remained a farming community and never developed s strong manufacturing industry. This caused the community to lag behind economically. Lacking disposal wealth, the residents of the town did not modernize their housing in the early twentieth century as many other neighboring communities. For that reason, many housing structures from the late 1700s and early 1800s survived to the present day. This gives the town a historic atmosphere that nearby communities have lost. Second, the early importance of farming in the community has influenced the use of land within the town’s territory. More than half the land in the town is open space as the community values the charm of country living.

Though sometimes overshadowed by larger neighboring towns, this community is worth considering as a place to make one’s home. Though it is on the fringe of the Boston metro area and lacks a commuter rail station, the property prices have remained relatively inexpensive when compared to neighboring communities with a more direct connection to the Boston metro area. The schools are highly rated, and the unemployment rate is a very low 2.9%. As one resident explained, “We love Sherborn because the community protects open space, has wonderful trails, and feels like a world away, yet is close to the Mass Pike and there's train access nearby.”
