The city offers a good mix of historic homes and new construction, many with classic New England architecture. Despite many historic homes for sale in the area, there is also a good deal of new construction to consider. The city is also home to an award-winning 55+ community comprised of single-family homes with luxury amenities. The Regency at Emerald Pines is designed for active adults with wooded home lots and resort-style amenities that include a garden center, putting green, tennis courts, fitness center, clubhouse, and a heated outdoor swimming pool. This community offers two-story and ranch homes with two-car garages and large first-floor master suites. HOA fees include landscaping, snow removal, irrigation, and community amenities. The Regency at the Emerald Pines is located next to the Loop Retail Village and close to the Rockingham Park Mall.

One of the most desired subdivisions in the city is the West Village community which features new homes and large lots. Homes in the community come in a range of styles with 2-bedroom, 3-bedroom, and 4-bedroom homes for sale. Square footage in this community ranges from 1,100 to more than 3,400 square feet. All current condo buildings in the city were built in the 1970s and 1980s, but don't assume you'll find cramped, outdated units. Most have been fully renovated and include in-demand amenities like tennis courts, clubhouses, barbecue spaces, walking paths, and on-site or in-unit laundry facilities.

One of the most popular condo communities in the city is The Greens Condominiums located on 8 Cleek Court within the prestigious Thomas Country Club private golf course. This property offers a relaxing retreat yet remains close to Routes 1, 128, 114, 62, and 93. Residents at this condo community enjoy easy access to the Thomson Country Club and the Grill Room plus a 10% discount on golf membership. The Greens includes a mix of townhomes and single-family homes with 172 condominiums spaced over 172 acres. The townhomes at The Greens were constructed in 1984 and offer two bedrooms and more than 1,500 square feet of space. Most units are updated with high-end features. Townhomes within The Greens community typically sell for more than $500,000, making it the most in-demand luxury townhome community in the city.

One of the largest condo buildings in the city is the Greenbriar Estate condominium. This well-kept complex has a total of 189 units with 1- and 2-bedroom units available. The property is surrounded by mature trees with well maintained common areas, an on-site laundry center, a tennis court, a pool, and a clubhouse. The building was built in 1974 but most condos have been updated with modern amenities. Condos range in size from 800 to 980 square feet of living space.

If you want a smaller and more affordable condo, the complex at 270 Main Street is a good choice. This complex sits right next to Martins Pond and Clark Park with a selection of 1-bedroom apartments with around 600 to 650 square feet of living space. Condos in this building typically sell for under $200,000.

Nearby, the professionally managed Park Colony Complex offers similar affordability with easy access to the commuter rail, 95, 93, and 495. Many units in condo building, which was built in 1974, have been fully renovated with moderate amenities. On average, these garden style condos have about 640 square feet of living space and one bedroom.

Also on Main Street is Building 46, one of the most affordable condo buildings in the city. This small building was also built in 1974 with one-bedroom apartments around 600 to 650 square feet in size. This brick condo development offers a quiet environment and open floor plans that provide more living space than the square footage would indicate.

Apartments

North Reading is not as renter-friendly as some communities, in part because the city only has about 15,000 residents. Still, there are a handful of apartment complexes in the area. It is possible to find studio apartments for under $1,000, but the average rent is $1,700 to $2,000.

As with condo buildings in the area, most apartments in the city date to the 1970s and 1980s. Most are renovated with in-demand modern amenities, including open floor plans, quality finishes, and in-unit or on-site laundry. If you don't have luck finding an available apartment in a rental complex, another option is looking for rental units in some of the city's condo complexes. Many HOAs allow owners to rent their units, as long as the tenant percentage does not exceed a certain limit in the building. This can be a good option if you want to work directly with the unit's owner instead of a property management firm.

The largest and most popular apartment complex in the city is Edgewood Apartments. This luxury apartment building offers one- and two-bedroom apartments surrounding by a natural setting. Edgewood Apartments is located next to Routes 93, 495, 28, 22, and I-95 as well as local beaches. The apartment complex offers a 24-hour state-of-the-art fitness center, an outdoor kitchen with grilling areas, a resort-style sundeck and pool, an upscale clubhouse, and attached and detached garages. Units at Edgewood Apartments include designer kitchens with full-size stainless steel appliances, gas fireplaces, crown molding, built-in shelving and computer alcoves, 9-foot ceilings, and extra storage space. Some units also have wooded views and either a patio or a balcony.

Just a little further south to Reading, MA is the Johnson Woods Condominiums Apartments complex with two-, three-, and four-bedroom luxury apartments, penthouses, and townhouses. Rent at Johnson Woods ranges from $2,600 to $4,400 for penthouses and townhouses. The facility offers luxury rental condos with in-unit fireplaces, granite countertops, hardwood floors, built-in bookshelves, and more. The building also offers basement storage space and a state-of-the-art fitness center. The Johnson Woods building was built in 2008. This 3-story complex has a total of 50 units available.

Of the condo complexes that allow owners to rent out their units, the Greenbriar Estate development is the largest. This condo complex has 189 units with a selection of one- and two-bedroom condos. The development offers mature landscaping, on-site laundry, a pool, and a clubhouse. While the condo building dates to 1974, most units feature modern in-demand amenities like hardwood flooring, stainless steel appliances, and granite countertops. You can expect 800 to 980 square feet of space. Given the size of the condominium, you should find at least one unit available for rent.

Other condo developments may also have units for rent such as the condo building at 270 Main Street, which is just minutes from Clarke Park and Martins Pond. This building offers smaller 1-bedroom, 1 bathroom apartments with about 640 square feet of space. Another option is Building 46, which has similar one-bedroom apartments, open floor plans, and a quiet wooded environment.

This small Massachusetts city may only have a population of about 15,000 within the city limits, but home prices here are consistently among the highest in the state and even rank among the most expensive in the entire country. The median home price in the 01867 zip code is $529,000, increasing more than 10% from 2016 to 2017 alone. The average list price per square foot is $323. This compares to the average price of $263 per square foot for the greater Boston Metropolitan area. Located just 18 miles from Boston via I-93, the city is a popular destination for commuters into the city.

As one of the most affluent areas of the Boston Metro area, the city has a reputation for beautiful homes with high-end finishes and large lots of land. While there are options for renters, the city has just a few condominium buildings and limited apartment complexes. New construction is less common in this area than surrounding cities with a higher amount of custom homes. It's not difficult to find homes in the area with elegant custom features like natural stone staircases, luxury outdoor kitchens, and master suites complete with whirlpool tubs and oversized stone walk-in showers.

The most desirable neighborhood in the city is Martins Pond, which is home to the city's movie theater, dining options, and outdoor recreation. This 92-acre fresh water pond features a public beach and playground with about 100 single-family homes immediately adjacent to the water on the east side. These homes consistently have the highest list price in the city. There are also a handful of luxury condo buildings within walking distance of the pond and surrounding park.

Another prestigious location is The Greens at Thomson Country Club. The Greens is made up of 172 condominiums, including 52 freestanding homes and 120 large townhomes, with views of the fairways. Townhomes at The Greens usually sell for $325,000 to $750,000.

The Hillview Country Club area is another option for country club living with a lower price point. This area features tree-lining streets on rolling hills with homes that sell for $300,000 to $800,000. The Hillview Country Club is a unique 18-hole golf course owned by the city and open to the public.

One of the newest neighborhoods in the city is Ridgeway Estates, which is comprised of new construction single-family homes in the $700,000 to $900,000 range. The Ridgewood Estates community is known for its elegant New England Colonial style homes on large lots with mature landscaping and a quiet environment.

The nearby Chestnut Village is a popular family-friendly neighborhood made up of single-family homes in the $500,000 to $800,000 price range. This community is served by the award-winning Batcheldor elementary school with homes in many styles, including split levels, Colonials, and Cape Cods.
