Leather District Neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts
The Leather District can be found between Chinatown and the Financial District of Boston, Massachusetts. This is one of the newer districts in the city of Boston, and it became an extremely important part of the city after the Great Boston Fire of 1872. The buildings within this district are beautifully built, and they are made to withstand some of the worst types of weather that occasionally hits Boston. Overall, the architecture of most of the buildings is considered to be Romanesque or Classical Revival.
The people who dwell within this district are known for being friendly, and there are a number of beautiful apartment buildings that offer their tenants an even more beautiful view of the Boston skyline from the comfort of their own apartments. There are also a few that allow their tenants to do this while accompanied by their furry four legged companions. This neighborhood got its name from all of the constraints and needs for the leather manufacturers back in the 1880s until the 1920s. It was within this particular area that everyone who worked in the leather manufacturing industry resided and worked during that 40 year time span.
This district lies from Kneeland Street to the south of the neighborhood up to Essex Street to the north. Atlantic Avenue is the neighborhood's border to the east, and Lincoln Street is its border to the west. This district was built officially back in 1883, and it was designed by a variety of different architects. In the past, this district was a commercial district, and back in 1983, that was how it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places Therefore, if you are interested in living in one of the oldest and most historic parts of Boston, Massachusetts, then the Leather District Neighborhood is one of your best options.
