Easton Condos

Easton is a town in Bristol County eastern Massachusetts 29 miles south of Boston by car via I-95 N and US Route 1 N. Other highways running through the town comprise of US Routes 106, 123 and 138. Bloom Bus operates an hourly service to the City that takes 39 minutes, and in an emergency, there are several taxi services. Commuter rail service to Back Bay and South Stations, Boston, is available from the neighboring towns of Mansfield and Stoughton, but MBTA is proposing to build two railroad stations on the Providence-Stoughton line in 2018.

The town is a pleasant, suburban community, primarily residential. It has its own small forest within Borderland State Park, which has more than 20 miles of wooded-lined trails for horseback riding, hiking, walking and biking. Other conservation areas are located in the southeast and southwest of the town.

The Old Colony Railroad Station houses the Easton Historical Society and has a full agenda of monthly and annual programs. Set within a protected area in the southern end of town is Simpson Spring, which has a company of the same name that sells a multitude of grocery items, sodas, seltzers and fresh produce. On Saturdays, the company plays host to farmer’s produce, bakeries and artisans and features special events. The town even has its own brewery, Shovel Town Brewery, which serves draft beers, flights, tasters and good “pub” food. During the last two decades the town has grown and prospered and now it has two new shopping plazas, three supermarkets and many fine eateries, some are large scale and others family owned, including a selection of ethnic restaurants.

There are condo developments all over town ranging in size and price from a 642 sq. ft., one bedroom, one bathroom unit for $103,000 to a 3,500 sq. ft. home with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms that costs around $650,000. As with the price of all real estate, the price reflects the age, condition and location of the home, so take these features into consideration when looking for a property to buy or if you have one to sell. The cost of homes here is lower than in the city, so if you are moving from Boston, you will soon appreciate the wide, open spaces and the slower pace of life, but you will still have all the usual amenities; cinemas, boutique shopping, banks and department stores.

Townhouses and duplexes are mainly constructed in typical New England Style of timber frame with a clapperboard exterior, but some apartment blocks are brick built. Kitchens have natural wood or “white” cabinetry, kitchen islands and many newer appliances are stainless steel. Remodeled homes have double-hung, storm windows, some with Georgian style panes, and have decks or patios for outdoor, summer entertaining. Lofts are all the rage and can be used as bedrooms, media rooms or a home office. Basements are block built and provide extra storage space, laundry areas or games rooms.

Renovated, large, older houses that have been converted into separate units have become very fashionable. Many have retained the original hardwood floors, fireplaces, beamed ceilings and have wide hallways. Rooms are spacious with access to each of the units from baronial staircases, which has a special appeal to many. Be prepared to pay a higher price for these historic extras.

Most condos have a Home Owner Association (HOA) fee, which includes different amenities available to residents that live in the development. Larger complexes might have a heated swimming pool, a children’s playground, picnic areas and a clubhouse where they host special events. Some have Master insurance, sewer, trash and snow removal, and tennis courts all included in the monthly fee.

Your perfect house is out there, and your local realtor can arrange a date and time for viewing your chosen property or on presenting an offer to the seller on your behalf. Realtors have computer access to the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) with all listed homes that are for rent or to buy in the town, and can notify you as soon as the type of home you are looking for is listed. Why not take the advice of a professional who knows the town and the area well and will help you find your new home quicker.
