East Bridgewater Condos

East Bridgewater is a town in Plymouth County Massachusetts located on the northern segment of the Taunton River and 27 miles southeast of Boston. Situated in a rural area, there are many ponds woods and rivers around the town, the largest being Robins Pond in the southeastern part. A short portion of MBTA’s Middleborough-Lakeville line passes through the western part of town, but most city commuters drive via US Route 18. Over the last 10 years, many improvements have been made to the town with a newly built junior high school and major road improvements. The town is now mostly residential, but in the 19th and 20th Centuries, it was a major center of boot and shoe manufacturing and various textile mills.

During all seasons there are many outdoor activities taking place like the annual Business Expo with great, local bands and CN Smith Farm’s fall, annual Harvest Hoedown Festival with hayrides, pony rides and live music. Every weekend there is a comprehensive calendar of events, so if you are new to the community, get out and enjoy the local festivities and meet your neighbors. The Grace Bible Church and a Civil War monument are situated on the town’s historic common. Art lovers will appreciate the town’s fine art galleries displaying impressionism and hosting special exhibitions. Other art related shops sell unique paintings, beautiful gifts and paper prints in custom frames.

Housing in East Bridgewater is affordable. A 942 sq. ft., two bedroom, one bathroom home in great condition with hardwood floors and a basement will cost around $185,000. Of course there are always homes that need a little TLC, which are priced lower. If you are a handyman and don’t mind roughing it until the work is done, you will likely find a few properties in this area waiting to be remodeled. Condos of all types and sizes are available in and around the town center. Renovated apartments with 786 sq. ft., or newly constructed, two car garage single family homes with 2,300 sq. ft., or converted mansions with 4,900 sq. ft.

Homes constructed in the 19th Century will have more spacious rooms, higher ceilings, crown molding and wider hallways and staircases. Many have refinished original, hardwood floors and the architectural roses and beams still remain. Kitchens are larger and might have Shaker cabinetry, new lighting fixtures, granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances, which include a range, refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher.

Newer homes may be block built or timber framed with traditional New England style clapperboard exteriors. Colonial styles might have double-hung, bay or bow windows, round or dormer windows or ones with Georgian style panes. Whether the property is older or newer, renovations will include gleaming new bathrooms with single or double vanities, fully tiled showers or Jacuzzi baths, and ceramic or marble flooring. Walk-in closets are normal in New England as are basements for turning into utility areas or recreational rooms. All homes will have various types of parking; some are off street, while others are allocated spaces or garages.

Every Home Owners Association (HOA) fees will differ and consist of varying amenities. Some now include Master insurance, water, sewer and lawn cutting. Others have Olympic-sized, swimming pools, putting greens, playgrounds, tennis courts and a communal clubhouse. Whatever facilities you want for your lifestyle can probably be accommodated. Ask your local real estate agent to list the available amenities included in the fees before you decide to view a home. Condos in larger complexes with acres of landscaped gardens and common areas will likely have a higher HOA because of the cost of the work required to maintain the acreage.

One way to “check out” the town before you buy a home and decide to relocate is to sign a short term lease. Living in the area and commuting daily to the city will soon make that unsettling decision for you. Once you leave the city behind every evening and each weekend for a few weeks, you will soon realize that you want the tranquility of country living and will contact a local realtor. He or she will spend as much time with you as it takes for you to find your perfect, country home.
