Duxbury Condos
Duxbury is a town in Plymouth County Massachusetts 35 miles to the southeast of Boston. The town is bordered by Cape Cod Bay on the east, the town of Plymouth to the southeast, and is the sixth largest producer of cranberries in the state as well as being renowned for its oysters and shellfish. The western part of the town has many wooded sections, a conservation area and several sanctuaries surrounded by bogs, ponds and marshes. There are also many recreational parks for dog walking, hiking, biking and horseback riding.

Pilgrim’s Highway, US Route 3, a two lane freeway, passes through the town along with Routes 3A, 14, 53 and 139. GATRA buses run through the town on the Seaside Area Intra-town Link and terminate at Hall’s Corner shopping district. There is no rail service, so the closest is the Kingston-Plymouth line of MBTA’s commuter rail.
For birders, North Hill Marsh Pond is the MA Audubon Society’s 129 acre sanctuary, which includes bike trails, a 98 acre pond and a forest. Historians might like a visit to King Caesar House, a museum dedicated to the early shipbuilding industry of the town. Art lovers should visit the Art Complex museum and Ellison Center for the Arts. Being a coastal town, much emphasis is on sailing, boating and water sports, but summer visitors are not as prevalent as the towns on popular Cape Cod and beaches are not as crowded. Some parts of the town’s Beach Park have sand, but much of it is pebbles and rocks. It has paid parking during peak season for both visitors and residents. Duxbury beach has five miles of golden sands accessed by a wooden bridge and has resident-only parking.
There are many authentic, colonial homes downtown along with cafés, restaurants, bars and shops. This area comes alive on weekend evenings and holidays. Many homes are available for summer rentals especially around the beach and waterfront areas. As with most properties with water views, expect to pay a higher price than a location nearer the town. Bostonians discovered this area decades ago and many have vacation homes that they rent to tourists during the summer months. Furnished rentals start at around $1,800 per month and might include cable TV, electricity, gas, A/C and all furnishings.
Condos are available to rent or buy and come in all sizes and styles. Some are traditional brick apartment blocks with allocated parking spaces and others are New England style duplexes with attached garages. For a 1207 sq. ft., two bedroom, two bathroom apartment located on the west side of town, the cost will be around $196,000. Many 19th and 20th Century farmhouses, barns or old rectories have been converted into condos and are all the rage. These attractive, older properties have maintained most of their original features like a portico and pillared entrance, fireplaces, and oak beams, and yet have modern, insulated windows and new flooring. Kitchens are fitted with custom cabinetry, stainless steel appliances and granite or hard composite counter tops. Rooms in upper floors might have attractive, sloping ceilings with eye-catching skylights that filter in morning daylight. A larger Home Owner Association (HOA) will nearly always have more amenities for your monthly or quarterly fees than smaller ones. Facilities might include a swimming pool, racquetball, a gym, walking trails, and gorgeous landscaped gardens with mature trees. Others provide a clubhouse with a conference room, tennis courts and beach access.
Real estate changes hands very infrequently in well-sought after neighborhoods. People move to districts like this with a view to staying and not using it as a pit-stop. They will have your best interests at heart and will help you find your “dream” home. They can arrange viewing days and times, submit offers on your behalf, and offer advice on local neighborhoods. Their knowledge of problems with past sales makes them the person to guide you through the renting or buying process, so contact a local realtor in Duxbury to steer you through the many loopholes or snags you could encounter.
