The preservation of agriculture land and farming, and the conservation of historical sites has been a priority in this area for several decades. Even the picturesque town hall, constructed in 2015 on the site of the old one, is located on an urban, residential street set in landscaped gardens. As of 2010, Dracut was believed to be the only town in the world with that name.
The geographic location and natural beauty of this district is a draw for new businesses with well-paying jobs and creates a better place for all to live and work. Indoor and outdoor sports play a large part in the town’s recreational activities. With spring and fall baseball and volleyball, children’s tennis lessons, summer swimming and winter wrestling, skiing and snowboarding, sporting opportunities are endless.
Dunlap sanctuary is an 85 acre easy hiking trail passing a beaver dam and loops around the shore of Big pond. Here you will have the chance to see birds and small animals in their natural habitat, perhaps even a deer. The town and its rural area have many more walking and hiking trails that pass through farmlands and woods, some skirting around lakes. The town is intent on the preservation and appreciation of the region’s natural, farm and recreational lands. One of their regular festivities is the annual craft fair, held at the Colburn/Cutter House, an 18th Century building with enormous beamed ceilings and a large center chimney.
Property in the town is very diverse. No matter what your property preference, this picturesque town has historic neighborhoods, areas with great shopping, and a good selection of delightful cafés and refined restaurants.
Dotted in rural areas are historic homes, some of which have been renovated and divided either into apartments or duplexes. New constructions have sprung up, some close to the Merrimack River, and are very much in demand. City dwellers that move to rural areas are more used to modern buildings and many prefer to purchase a condo with which there is very little maintenance. Most condos have a Home Owner Association (HOA) and the majority of them have a monthly or quarterly fee, which will differ with each association and include different amenities. Some HOAs now cover all building maintenance, Master insurance, landscaping and snow removal along with recreational facilities.
As in all New England towns, prices reflect the condition and the location of the property. A two bedroom, one bathroom, 1050 sq. ft. townhouse with an integral garage will cost around $188,000. In recent years, many construction companies are building colonial style duplexes with integral garages and Georgian style, bay windows. These very attractive three bedroom, two bathroom, 1518 sq. ft. duplexes cost around $370,000. Compact 736 sq. ft. apartments in traditional brick buildings with two off street parking spaces will be priced around $115,000. Many of these smaller apartments have been updated and are offered for rent with flexible lease terms. Tenants usually pay their own electricity.
If you are looking to rent, buy or sell a home, you need a local realtor to find you the best deal. Whether you are buying a vacation home, an investment rental or moving from the city, your realtor will work with you to make sure you get first hand notice when a new property comes on the market and there will be no charge when he or she finds you a suitable property. The commission that the seller pays to the realtor for finding a buyer is a good investment. Why struggle to find a buyer for your home when an experienced professional can cut your selling time in half. Signing up with a realtor, who knows the town, is the best way to attain your goal.
