Dover Condos
Dover is a town in Norfolk County Massachusetts located 15 miles southwest of Boston on the south banks of the Charles River. Access to the city is via I-95 and multiple rail stations. This peaceful, rural town with shaded woodlands, many hiking trails, horseback riding, and in the winter months, cross-country skiing, is ideal for country lovers. Some street parking spaces downtown is metered but others are restricted to two hours on weekdays, but after 5pm and weekends parking is free. All that remains of its once prosperous farming industry is open pasture land, stone walls and the many treed woodlands. For avid hikers, Noanett Woodlands has miles of unspoiled trials that meander beside lakes and stone bridges gushing with small waterfalls. Parking lots at the start of each trail display large map boards and also paper maps. Some trails are steep, but the effort is well worth the climb when you reach the top and are rewarded with great views of the Boston skyline.

The town is home to six museums, many important historic sites and an Entertainment and Cultural Arts Center. For information on the town’s many annual activities, head for the visitor’s center. Twice a year this small town plays host to NASCAR races and many other outstanding special events. For most of the year, on the first Friday of every month, downtown Dover holds free family fun with arts and crafts and live music. The town is renowned for its beautiful flower gardens and distinctive architecture. A landscaped pedestrian pathway at Lookerman Way Plaza hosts the annual Christmas tree lighting as well as a weekly farmer’s market and a monthly “dinner and a movie.”
For generations, real estate in the town was predominately the sale of businesses, apartments and single family homes, but then construction companies began building new homes in the 1990s. With the town having many wide open spaces, builders purchased large parcels of land creating delightful, landscaped complexes for their new constructions. A 50-year-old, 715 sq. ft., one bedroom, one bathroom apartment will cost around $225,000 whereas a newly constructed six bedroom farmhouse with dormer windows and garage parking will cost 10 times more. The selection of real estate in the town is as diverse as the town itself.
Each Home Owner Association (HOA) will include different amenities. Some communities have controlled access, communal clubhouses with frequent resident-only activities, a heated swimming pool, tennis courts and snow removal. Others include tree and shrub trimming, exterior and roof maintenance, allocated private parking spaces and dog parks. Since the onset of new construction, original farmhouses and barns have been converted into apartments and charming condos, some with private garage spaces. Although many of the newer properties were constructed in a colonial style with high ceilings, crown molding and hard wood floors, many have since been remodeled to include skylit converted lofts, separate laundry rooms, new double-hung, bow or bay windows, breakfast bars and wood burning fireplaces.
In keeping with the town’s rural setting, many up-to-date kitchens feature Shaker cabinetry. New Englanders pride themselves in having well functioning kitchens and granite or hard composite counter tops, stainless steel appliances and butcher block islands are the norm in many homes.
Because these countryside homes are very popular, as soon as one is listed for sale or rent, they sell or rent very quickly. By contacting a realtor, your chance of viewing new listings is tripled. They have computer access to a realtor-only website, which allows them to see a home as soon as it is listed, so then they can make immediate contact with you. Summer and winter vacation renting is widespread in this region and some rentals are booked up from one year to the next. If you are considering seasonal or annual renting, your realtor can notify you as soon as a property becomes available. The average time for a property that is for sale to be on the market, is one or two days. As soon as a property is listed, people are clamoring to view it.
Realtors love selling condos. Most homes sell themselves with prospective buyers appreciating the great facilities the complex has to offer. Once your local realtor knows how quickly you want to buy or sell your home, you can depend on him or her to work in your favor and satisfy your needs.
