Downtown Danvers has a host of public parking available, as many as 1,700, time-limited spaces on streets and in municipal and private parking lots, so shopping is a delight. The town itself has many specialty museums and historic sites and with the town being in close proximity to Salem and Peabody, there are many more other interesting activities close by. Less than five miles away is the town of Salem, named “the creepiest town in America” and famous for its 17th Century witch trials and museum. As with all villages and towns, fine restaurants and eateries are plentiful. Whether your choice is Italian, Chinese, Indian or just plain American, there is a great selection of cafés and takeaways.
Real estate in New England is thriving and purchasing condos is becoming more and more popular. All have Home Owner Association (HOA) fees, either paid monthly or quarterly and can vary by amount, but for many it makes for a better lifestyle. Amenities that a HOA offers vary from association to association. Many have 24-hour maintenance, controlled access, a community pool, clubhouse and landscaping and snow removal. Others have tennis and basketball courts, shuffleboard, children’s playgrounds and barbecue areas.
First decide on the type of home you are looking for; the size and the price range. Properties range from 645 sq. ft. one bedroom, one bathroom apartments to 5,000 sq. ft. single family homes. Prices of apartments start around $190, 000 and larger residences can be prices at as much as $3 million. Some condos offer maintenance free living and for businesspeople and retirees, this can be a great advantage.
Most properties from the 20th Century or older have been renovated, well maintained and contain newly designed interiors consisting of modern kitchen cabinetry, hard composite or granite counter tops, matching or stainless steel appliances and breakfast bars or kitchen islands. Living spaces tend to be more spacious with higher ceilings and original crown molding and all have either a patio or deck for summer dining and entertaining. Many have large basements suitable for laundry areas, media rooms or games rooms. Winters can be cold in the north, so original fireplaces are preserved along with stone or brick wall features, thus adding extra charm to these historic homes.
Newer units can be waterfront penthouses or apartments with magnificent views of the river and marina or townhouses or single family homes with private garage parking or allocated parking spaces. A common feature among New England homes is the use of hardwood flooring for main rooms and ceramic tile or marble in kitchens and bathrooms. Some builders emulate the colonial styles by constructing rooms with cathedral ceilings and modern beams or classic front porches, all of which add to the attraction of a newer home, which requires less maintenance.
Rentals become available from time to time. Some rentals have flexible lease terms whereas others have annual leases, so contact your local realtor who will advise and assist you with your search. Realtors provide an essential service when renting, buying or selling a home because they know the area and the price market. They will contact the homeowner and arrange a viewing date and time at your convenience. If planning to sell your house, a realtor will give you help and advice and be the mediator between you and any potential buyers, so that the sale goes through as smoothly as possible.
