Three beautiful beaches, Sandy beach, Pleasant Beach and Crescent Beach stretch along the bay and there is a yacht club, sailing club and a public boat launch in the harbor. Wampatuck State Park with 262 different campsites occupies most of the southwest part of the town along with the Whitney & Thayer Woods Reservation, which has 10 miles of trails and is dotted with glacial boulders. There are no divided highways running through the town, but with the commuter railway, commuter boats and Route 3A for modes of transportation, this town is the ideal place to live or visit. For the outdoor sportsman, there is a golf course, tennis, swimming and walking and jogging trails. Renowned for its waterfront location and its seafaring activities, discerning people are drawn to this distinguished haven for its history, scenery, eclectic village shopping and refined restaurants.

There are a variety of different sized and priced properties located in this unique coastal town. Some properties were built in the 19th century as early as 1800, some are 40 to 60 years old and others are new constructions. The older constructed homes have all been renovated to become basic or luxurious condos with up-dated exteriors, state-of-the-art kitchens, storm windows and well appointed bathrooms. Some have kept the antique touches of expose beams, original hardwood floors and doors.

The variety of constructions range from timber frame, original fieldstone to clapperboard and traditional block. Home styles include converted coach houses, Tudor mansions, colonial mansions and traditional, new block-built properties.

Units vary in size from 1,000 sq. ft. to 5,000 sq. ft. with prices from $300,000 to $2.5 million. As in other parts of the country, waterfront properties command higher prices especially if they have spectacular views of the city skyline, Massachusetts Bay or the Atlantic Ocean. You can choose from one bedroom, one bathroom homes to eight bedroom, five bathroom homes and most have hardwood flooring throughout. Some kitchens are equipped with custom cabinetry, granite counter tops and newer stainless steel appliances. Most homes have spacious living and dining areas along with patios or decks for outside relaxation and dining.

Depending on your preference, you can choose from elegant, older buildings, which were originally one large home with several fireplaces, nine foot ceilings, custom built-ins, walls of windows and have been divided into apartments, or a newer construction. These may be two story townhouses or single family homes and might be part of a large or small community, some of which are gated. Allocated parking areas and garage spaces will differ with each residence as does the Home Owner Association (HOA) fee and the restrictions on pets. Some condos with higher HOA fees come with extra perks like landscaping and snow removal.

The choice of properties in this area is enormous. Many are built in the traditional, Cape Cod, New England style with one or more dormer windows, which create charming, sloping ceilings in the upper floor rooms. Some have large, beautiful grounds whereas others have their own private backyard.

The best place to start when considering buying or renting a home in Cohasset is to consult your local realtor. There is no such property as ‘the perfect place.’ There will usually be some small factor you are not sure about, but the secret is to compromise. Your realtor will explain each part of the renting, buying or selling procedure precisely, so that there are no last minute pitfalls.
