Beacon Hill Neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts
Beacon Hill is one of the more historic neighborhoods of Boston, Massachusetts. It is near to the Back Bay neighborhood, and it is home to roughly 27,000 people. This neighborhood has some of the most beautiful architecture left over from its original era. The architecture of this area is a mixture between Greek revival, Colonial Revival, and Federal. The actually architect that designed the Beacon Hill neighborhood was Charles Bulfinch, and there are a lot of different interesting sites that residents and tourists can enjoy, while within the neighborhood. When walking down the streets in the Beacon Hill neighborhood, one can just feel the history that was left behind by the people who originally helped to build it up to what it is today.
Back in the day, Beacon Hill was the neighborhood where a lot of Irish and Jewish immigrants settled when coming to the United States, and due to this, it is filled with a lot of old and historical apartment buildings that use to house these immigrants. A few of these apartments are still in business, and unlike a lot of the newer apartment buildings, they provide their tenants with the option to keep both dogs and cats on the premises.
There is a lot of history at Beacon Hill that connects back to the civil war. One of the most popular sites of interest in Beacon Hill is The Boston African American National Historical Site. There are also a few different buildings that are a part of the Black Heritage Trail that were a large part of the Underground Railroad. One of the largest museums that is dedicated to African American history is also found within this neighborhood, and it is called the Museum of African American History. The Massachusetts State House can also be found on Beacon Street within the Beacon Hill neighborhood.
Suffolk University is located adjacent to the Massachusetts State House, and it has been around since back in the early 1900s.
